Dit is Dressing chooses innovative mono-material spoutbags
From local product to nationwide distribution with DaklaPack
In 2003, Restaurant De Heerlijckheid in Sleeuwijk introduced a creamy, slightly sweet dressing designed to complement their carpaccio dish. Its unique flavor quickly gained popularity, proving to be versatile beyond the restaurant. Over time, demand for the dressing grew beyond the bistro. By 2014, it was being sold through a local greengrocer, eventually achieving steady sales in 20 supermarkets.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, an opportunity arose: a major supermarket chain expressed interest in offering the sweet vegetable dressing on a larger scale. As a result, the number of retail locations increased to 60. In 2022, the family business decided to further professionalize and make the product available nationwide. With a rebrand to "Dit is Dressing," they strengthened their identity and introduced a more practical and recognizable packaging.
A new packaging solution for supermarkets
After years of selling their product in screw-cap bottles, Dit is Dressing opted for a mono-material pouch with a spout. This innovative solution offers multiple benefits: precise dosing, reduced waste and improved hygiene. The compact pouch reduces transport costs and requires less storage space. Since September 2023, the dressing has been available in this eye-catching new packaging in various supermarkets. Remarkably, the dressing is still made in-house every Saturday.
Martijn Knoop, Manager at Dit is Dressing, shared: “DaklaPack provided valuable input on the design and sizing. We tested several packaging options and different cap colors to perfect the final look. We’re particularly impressed by their flexibility and problem-solving approach. Just before the launch, we discovered the packaging wasn’t sturdy enough. This was stressful, but we trusted DaklaPack to resolve it - and within weeks, we had improved packaging ready to go.”Collaborating with DaklaPack for a complete packaging solution
Dit is Dressing found an experienced partner in DaklaPack to manage the entire packaging process. After evaluating several suppliers, DaklaPack stood out for its combination of expertise and flexibility. Together they refined the design, moving from a transparent pouch to a matte white mono-material version that aligns with the brand’s image and market positioning.
DaklaPack not only produces packaging but also offers supplementary services like warehouse storage and on-demand delivery. This provides Dit is Dressing with the flexibility to respond quickly to growing demand without logistical challenges. The partnership showcases how DaklaPack delivers scalable, comprehensive solutions.
Martijn continued: “Our ‘Dit is Dressing’ packaging is stored at DaklaPack and delivered on demand. We have a good idea of monthly sales and request new shipments every few months. This extra service makes things so much easier, especially as we don’t have the space to store the packaging ourselves. DaklaPack’s all-in-one approach, from development and production to storage, has been a perfect fit for us.”

Practical and sustainable innovations for consumers
The switch to pouch packaging offers clear advantages for consumers. The design allows for easier dosing and minimizes waste while keeping the spout clean. Additionally, the packaging is more sustainable, with its flat design reducing space requirements for transport and storage. This not only saves costs but also lowers CO₂-emissions. Consumer tests confirmed that the pouch not only improved the product experience but also met modern sustainability expectations.
Martijn explained: “With the old bottles, the caps would get messy, especially with a mayonnaise-based dressing, which could lead to discoloration. Precise dosing was also challenging and you could never get everything out of the bottle. The recyclable pouch eliminates these issues. Made from durable mono-material, it’s also easier to store in the fridge.”

Scaling up and looking ahead
Dit is Dressing is excited about further expanding the reach of its sweet vegetable dressing and flavorful aioli. They’re brimming with ideas, eager to seize new opportunities and committed to continuous development. Recently, they updated their packaging to enhance information for consumers. The family business is also exploring new, tasty products and innovative packaging options, such as sachets for different applications.
Tim Gilsing, Account Manager Laminated at DaklaPack, remarked: “At DaklaPack, we work with a wide variety of clients across different industries and sizes. Supporting a close-knit family business like Dit is Dressing and helping them grow with our expertise is incredibly rewarding. The dressing’s evolution into a standalone product is inspiring, and there’s so much potential for further scaling. We’re proud to grow alongside them in this unique journey. Of course, we’ve also tasted the dressing and aioli ourselves - we’re big fans!”
