Innovation for flexible packaging and sample collection kits

Within the innovation centre, we continuously develop solutions for packaging and shipping concepts. Sometimes that means improving an existing flexible pack, and sometimes it means developing an idea that has not been realised before. We turn challenges into a clear design that is technically feasible and practical to use.

With prototypes and samples, we make concepts tangible before they go into production. We test shapes, the optimal material composition and functionality. This allows you to experience in advance how a new solution works in practice. The DaklaPack innovation centre also provides targeted support for designing and producing medical sample collection kits.

Developing what does not yet exist

Some packaging or shipping challenges do not call for adjustments, but for development. Our innovation team works on solutions that are not yet available as standard. Think packaging that integrates with existing technical production lines, reusable solutions, or flexible packaging with multiple compartments that can be safely mixed before use. We combine hands-on testing with technical development. The result is a usable packaging solution that is innovative and manufacturable.

Examples of innovations brought to life

We have developed several innovative solutions that are now used successfully. The Rigid Safetybag was designed for safe, reliable shipping of valuable or sensitive contents. The PolyMed sleeve provides a protective solution for sending medical mail.

We have also developed functional add-ons for flexible packaging, such as the EasyDose spout for highly accurate dosing of liquid products. The TurtleCap is a “twist-to-open” cap that remains attached to the spout after opening, without reducing ease of use.

From concept to a functional prototype

An idea only has value when it can actually be made. In the innovation centre, we translate concepts into a design that aligns with material choice, shape and the required functionality. We develop this into technical drawings and trial models, so it is clear how the packaging or kit can be produced in practice.

We can move quickly from idea to prototype. Using specialist equipment, we create a functional prototype from the chosen materials. This can be a handmade sample suitable for testing on an existing line. That way, you gain early insight into shape, use and manufacturability, before scaling up to production.

          Testing and optimising before production

Before a concept goes into full production, we test the prototype for functionality and practical use. We assess shape, quality, reliability and behaviour in use. Testing can be carried out with the actual contents, so it is clear how the packaging performs during filling, pouring or dosing. Based on the results, we optimise the design so the solution is technically feasible and performs reliably at scale.

          Custom development, optimisation and kitting

Our innovation team supports custom projects where a packaging or shipping solution needs to be developed or refined further. We contribute to new product launches and improving existing solutions. With our knowledge of materials and capabilities, we ensure concepts are both feasible and responsible.

Within kitting projects, colleagues from the innovation centre make an important contribution. We design and optimise medical sample collection kits and other assembled sets with a focus on sustainability, ease of use for the (end) user, and applicable laws and regulations. At DaklaPack, we always ensure that what we develop works in practice.
